FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

About the FireSong Gas Fireplace Sound System

Q: How hard is it to add the FireSong system into an existing gas fireplace?
A: It is extremely simple and takes only a few minutes. The two small stereo speaker enclosures are placed just inside the access grille in the cool air chamber beneath the firebox of most gas fireplaces. The power supply is plugged into the AC receptacle in most fireplaces. A millivolt or IPI valve sense cable is connected to the valve terminals. That's all there is to it!

Q: What if there is no AC power inside my gas fireplace?
A: Redfire provides an optional battery pack to power the system. The FireSong will typically run for up to 60 hours continuously on just four alkaline AA cells. In many cases, that may be long enough for an entire season of occasional fireplace operation.

Q: Can the FireSong system handle the heat from a gas fireplace?
A: The FireSong system is designed and tested to withstand 85 degrees C. The cool air chamber below the fireboxes of most gas fireplaces are much cooler than 85 degrees C. However, there are some gas fireplaces that are designed specifically as heating devices in which the FireSong product should not be used.

Q: Can anyone install a FireSong system in their home fireplace?
A: Because every fireplace is different, Redfire recommends that the FireSong system be installed only by licensed and qualified fireplace technicians. Contact your local fireplace retail and service store.

Q: How does the FireSong system turn on its sound effects when the flames turn on?
A: A supplied cable ties into the valve terminal block and senses the millivolt or IPI valve voltage.

Q: Does the FireSong draw power from the valve circuit?
A: No. The valve voltage is only sensed. No power is drawn from the valve circuit and the FireSong system will not interfere with the normal operation of the valve.

Q: My fireplace uses a higher voltage gas valve. Will the FireSong sense cable still work?
A: Yes. The valve sense voltage input range extends from millivolt valves up to 35 volt DC valves.

Q: How do I adjust the intensity of the crackling sounds and the audio volume?
A: There are four buttons on the system - two for simulated flame intensity of the audio and two for volume control.

Q: Do I need to set the volume and intensity each time the system is turned on?
A: No. The settings are recorded by the FireSong system a short time after they are set and those become the default power on settings. The settings can be changed using the control buttons at any time.

Q: How does the FireSong generate such realistic fireplace sounds without using prerecorded audio loops?
A: The FireSong system design is based on Redfire's SA-3420A IC which generates the sound effects in real time using Redfire's proprietary
Silicon Awakened!™ technology.
